Offshore grips
Used for pulling cables in tough environments such as offshore platforms, shipping and other marine installations. Cable up to 325 mm, up to 43 tonnes with a single eye and up to 74 tonnes with a double eye.
Dimensions and modelsPulling and support grips since 1969
The harder you pull, the harder it grips.
Hand-braided pulling and support grips for cable, wire rope, hose and pipe. The mesh is tightened by the pulling force, and every grip is braided and swaged by hand.

Products
The standard range covers most situations. Pulling grips are also known as wire mesh grips or cable socks. Everything is braided by hand, so we can modify an existing model or make a new model to your requirements. Dimensions, breaking strength and weight for every model are given under Dimensions and sizes.

Dimensions and modelsPolyethylene coated aramid for ALUS type overhead line, support and hose restraint. High strength, low weight, and it does not conduct electricity.
Dimensions and models
Relieving suspension for temporary or permanent cable installations, including demanding environments such as coastal wind turbines and pumping stations.
Dimensions and models
Used above all for pulling cable, but works just as well on pipe and wire rope. Single, double or side eye, multi pulling and split versions.
Dimensions and models
Prevents fatigue and wear in cable and hose exposed to cyclic stress: reeling systems, cable drums and connections to electric motors.
Dimensions and models
Hose restraint at connections for hydraulic and high pressure hose. Catches the whiplash when a coupling fails and protects both people and equipment.
Dimensions and models
Lighter pulling of cable. Available in two mesh lengths, where the longer one suits fibre optic and other sensitive cable.
Dimensions and models
For heavier pulling of aluminium or copper phase conductors, wire rope and cable. Braided in sections with triple, double and single wire.
Dimensions and models
Links two objects together. SK for cable and steel wire rope, SL for wire rope and phase conductors that call for high pulling forces.
Dimensions and modelsTechnical information
Every grip is braided from 19 strand wire rope and swaged with aluminium ferrules. Stainless grips are made with stainless wire rope, a stainless thimble (AISI 316) and copper ferrules.
The grips must not be used for lifting. They are aids for pulling, support and restraint, and this applies to every model in the range.
Eye
The length of a wire rope eye is set so that the unswaged eye leaves a distance of at least 15 × the wire rope diameter between the ferrule and the top of the eye. The length is given for an unloaded eye.
Thimble (DIN 6899)
Applies to galvanised thimbles (mm):
| Ø wire rope | B | H | W |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 14 | 23 | 5 |
| 6 | 18 | 28 | 7 |
| 7 | 20 | 32 | 8 |
| 8 | 24 | 38 | 10 |
| 10 | 28 | 45 | 12 |

Breaking strength, BS
The breaking strength given is the mean of measured breaking strengths for new, unused grips, tensile tested on metal bars, metal tubes or wire ropes at the nominal diameter. Breaking strength varies with the material, shape and diameter of the object the grip is fitted to. The variation can reach ± 25 %, so a specific strength cannot be guaranteed.
Manufacturing
Every model is tensile tested in our own horizontal rig, with a capacity of up to 100 tonnes. Those are the values given in the dimension tables.
The grip is braided by hand from Swedish made wire rope. Where the pull calls for a gradual transition between grip and pulling tension, the mesh is braided in sections with triple, double and single wire.
Depending on the model, the grip ends in a soft wire rope eye or a swaged thimble: single, double or side.
The breaking strength of each model has been measured in a test bench. The mean measured on the grips is what the tables give as BS.
A certificate for the grip is available.

Swaging of eyes and ferrules on wire rope, in the dimensions you need.
Swaging and fitting of pulling eyes, so the rope is ready to use.
Our own horizontal test bench, with a test certificate for the testing carried out.
The grips are used as Aids for cable and pipe pulling Protection at hydraulic couplings Aids for pulling overhead lines Strain relief at motor connections Cable support in wind turbines and pumping stations Aids for wire rope replacement
History
Karl-Erik Stenborg braided his first grip in 1969, and for more than fifty years KES was a family business. In February 2023 Camilla Spinnars and Ulrika Lindholm took over the business through KES Drag & Gripstrumpor AB, with thanks to the Stenborg family. The manufacturing is the same: every grip is still braided by hand.
