Series L

Overhead line pulling grips

Overhead line pulling grips are used mainly for pulling phase conductors in copper or aluminium, and also for wire rope and cable. The grip is braided in sections of triple, double and single wire so that its whole length is used. The sections give a gradual transition between grip and pulling tension.

Used as an aid for pulling overhead lines.

The grips must not be used for lifting. This applies to every model in the range.

LE: Overhead line pulling grip, single eye

  • Braided in sections of triple, double and single galvanised steel wire
  • Single pulling eye with soft wire rope
  • Protective aluminium collars

LE is a heavy duty grip for demanding pulling of wire rope and phase conductors in pure aluminium or copper. Every model in the series has an extra long mesh and is braided in sections of triple, double and single wire. The LE models are fitted with a soft wire rope eye to match a swivel. Protective aluminium collars are also fitted for greater wear resistance and service life.

How to read the tables

  • The mesh length is given at nominal diameter.
  • The eye length is given for an unloaded eye.
  • BS is the breaking strength, given in kilograms.
  • The weight is given in kilograms.

Reservations about breaking strength

BS is the average of measured breaking strengths for new, unused grips. The breaking strength varies with the material, shape and diameter of the object the grip is fitted to, and the variation can reach 25 percent. Pulling grips should never be loaded above 1/3 of BS and support grips never above 1/5 of BS. More about breaking strength and safety factor
